Yes, I have learned a lot about the bills that governors are trying
to pass and what exactly they will do. I also learned how they will be enforced
and what they expect us to do. I did like how we broke each assignment up and
on different due dates because it would have been overwhelming to do it all at
once and without practice. I really didn't see any drawbacks about having
phases. From now on when I research something I will make sure that I apply the
CRAAP method. Before I never did that and just went a long believing whatever
the article said without checking the source. I have read something without
checking the reliability of it and said it to someone else and I was so
embarrassed because I found out that it was not true. But now that I know how
to check a source I will always do this so I will know that my information is
right and I will feel confident when I tell someone or go into a debate. I have
found that not every source is valuable and I now know how to sort through them
putting the bad ones on one side and the good ones on the other. What I am most
thankful for is learning the CRAAP method. This has helped so much and I will
use this every time I am looking something up.

phase 7
In the Malloy Calls for Expanding Connecticut’s
Assault-Weapon Ban article that I read talks about the ban on
assault-weapons and what would happen if this was past. Governor Dannel Malloy
of Connecticut wants to ban every type of assault weapon and some types of
rifles that were used in the massacres. Also lowering magazine capacities to 10
from 30 and also expanding background checks and making it even harder to buy a
weapon. Also this bill would give the gun owners and sellers till Oct 1 of the
year it was put into effect to sell and get rid of the magazines and weapons
that would become illegal.
When I apply
the CRAAP method to this article I feel
that it has some good points but also has some bad ones as well. I see that
this article was written February 21, 2013 so you can’t get much better than
that. The relevance of the article is good and has some good information in it
but also has some babbling in it as well, so that kind of deludes the good hard
facts. I searched for the author but for some reason I could not find him/her but,
I could have over looked them. Newsmax has published a lot of articles on gun
bans and stuff like that so I feel that there information is good and reliable.
The reason why they wrote and published this is because this is what is
happening today and not a lot of people know about it. They are trying to
spread the word and let people know that either something has to be done.

phase 6
For
me the hardest part of this blog assignment has been finding sources and making
sure that they are creditable. There are just so many sources and articles out
there it is hard to find the one that you want and then once you have you need
to check to make sure it is creditable and not unreliable. Before, I thought that
finding out if it is creditable or not was checking the date and the website
but it’s not, it is so much more than that. Finding the date, the author and
his or her background, the subject of the article, are some of the many ways to
check its credibility. For this blog I will be focusing more so on the CRAAP
method and making sure that I put all of the information on the blog this time.
At this time there are not any comments on my phase 5 blog so I cannot answer
that question.
This
source (link is at the bottom of the page) was written about 3 weeks ago on a January
24. It is primarily on a bill that is being presented to congress soon and the
effects that it will cause. I feel that this relevant because it has a lot of
good information about why people want to ban assault weapons and why it is or
is not a good idea. Mark Kogan wrote this article and he is a lawyer that has received
a J.D. from Washington College of Law and also a B.A. from Stanford. I feel that
he is a reliable source and did his research before writing this article. He is
very accurate in his findings even quoted some senators in this article. I believe
that he wrote this just to inform anyone who wanted to know what is going on
and what kind of bills are trying to go through our government.
Dianne
Feinstein Assault Weapons Ban is Political Suicide For Democrats is the title
of this article and talks about the bill that Dianne Feinstein wants to pass. In
this bill it will limit the number of rounds you can have in your gun by taking
away and no longer selling high-capacity round mags. Also this bill will “ban
all weapons capable of holding a magazine with a greater than 10 round capacity”.
Meaning that most pistols and a lot of rifles and assault weapons will be now illegal
to possess and sell. This will not only not get passed but will also cause an
uproar in congress and sides will be taken.
What
this bill would do to me is take away my 45. Smith and Wesson pistol and limit
me to what I could buy in the future. If this is what people want then what
will be next to ban? Cars that go over 60 mph, because when people speed they
get into accidents and then that kills people. That is the same accusation that
we are making about guns. Guns don’t kill people, people that are mad, hurt,
confused, stressed out kill people. It’s the same with cars, cars don’t kill
people, people that are mad, sad, upset, confused, and emotional in cars kill
people. Plus you cannot just expect to walk up to someone’s door and knock on
it and say I am taking your guns because it is against the law, and not expect
for someone to act out in violence. If the government passes this bill I believe
that it will be one of if not the worst bill ever past.

Obama says assault weapons ban deserves a vote in congress is an article that caught my attention while looking for sources. After applying the CRAAP method to it I found out that it is a very good source for my blog. The C for CRAAP stands for currency and this article was written on February 4, 2013 so I don’t think that I could get much closer than that. The R stands for relevance to my subject. The article is about how and why President Barack Obama wanted congress to at least hold a vote on banning assault weapons to the public. The first A is authority, meaning who wrote this article. A Mark Felsenthal wrote this article and he has written many articles for and about our Presidents over the years. The second A stands for accuracy which is talking about the reliability of the source and Mark has written numerous articles and I feel that he is reliable. The P is for purpose meaning the reason behind this information existing. Everyone wants to ban assault weapons because of the shooting that have happened lately.

Phase 4
In this source it is giving off a lot of stats and information about assault rifles and how many there are. This are true hard facts and I know this because on almost everyone he puts a link with it to show you where he got this information from. Justin Peters is the author of this article and he is a very creditable source because he writes for the Columbia Journalism Review and this is not his first time writing about something like this. This article was written on December 20th of the year 2012 which means it is up to date and the information is not old and out of date.

first blog and just a start so everyone knows what I want
I have chosen ‘Guns, a love hate relationship’ because this
is a big issue today. The number of shootings in schools and public places has
grown in the last 10 years. I have my own views on gun control and what we
should be allowed and not allowed to possess. I don’t know all there is to know
about the law and what our rights are but I have a general idea. I am really
excited to find out what the law really says and why it says it. Also knowing
why people think we should and should not have and possess guns and what kind
of guns. I want this blog to be read by all ages and all different kind of
views. I honestly want to find out why people think we should not have guns and
why they think they are so evil.
